National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) to enable students to get admission to MBBS/BDS in India

Supreme Court of India in its Judgement dated 09.05.2016 has ruled that only National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) would enable students to get admission to MBBS/BDS studies in India. Subsequent amendments made to Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and the Dentist Act, 1948 in 2016 to give effect to this ruling of the Supreme Court on NEET requirement have prescribed a uniform entrance examination for admission to MBBS/BDS courses, including for foreign students. NEET would serve as a measure to ensure a minimum standard of education in medical & dental colleges in India.

A Press Release issued by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in this regard, including on the applicability of NEET requirement for foreign students for admissions to all medical/dental colleges in India for MBBS/BDS courses beginning academic year 2017-18, is available at page 2 and 3 of this document. NEET will be held in examination centres in India. This year the examination will be held on 7 May 2017.

CBSE has created the website www.chseneet.nic.in where all details including Admission Notice, Information Bulletin, Syllabus, Examination Centres, Eligibility Criteria, Procedure for online submission of application, FAQs, etc., may be accessed.
