In the current global economic landscape, “BRICS” has emerged as an important economic force representing the five major emerging economies. During India’s chairmanship of the BRICS Forum in 2016, the Export-Import Bank of India [Exim Bank], being the nominated member development bank from India under the BRICS Interbank Cooperation Mechanism, had instituted the Exim Bank of India BRICS Economic Research Award, at the instance of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, with the objective of encouraging and stimulating advanced research on economics related topics of relevance to the member nations of BRICS.  

The annual Award comprises of a Citation and prize money of Indian Rupees 1.50 million [equivalent] [approximately USD 23,000/-] which is sponsored by Exim Bank. The Award would serve to encourage scholars to undertake focused research studies on topics of contemporary relevance to BRICS.  

The Award accepts as entries, Doctoral Theses written by nationals of any of the five-member nations of BRICS, who have been awarded a Doctorate or accepted for award of a Doctorate from any recognized nationally accredited University or academic institution globally, during the period January 2013 to March 2018.  The broad focus of the eligible theses could be International Economics, Trade, Development, and related aspects of Financing, which may also have particular relevance especially to BRICS nations/ member development banks of BRICS. Kindly note that the last date for submitting the application isMarch 31, 2018. Exim Bank envisages to announce the Award winner during the Annual BRICS Financial Forum scheduled to be held in South Africa in September 2018.
